“The Central library” Artist Book

Second new Edition Book updated. Limited edition of 100

This artist’s book is based on drawings and paintings from an archive of ten sketchbooks made over the years 2018 to 2021, inspired by the photographs of the Sourasky Central Library in Tel Aviv university. The drawings use techniques such as collage, pencils, felt pens, masking tape, and markers, and were produced in a rhythm of double spreads, with consideration of their sequence and the formalistic connection between them.

French binding detail of the artist book

The book reconstructs the experience of flipping through a sketchbook, and through close-ups creates a capsule of one space that everything converges into. Indeed, it is printed and bound in a 'French fold' that conjures up the book as an object that enfolds the entire project into the form of a book.

The corridors, shelves, pages, covers – all receive representations here of rich visual research. The drawings reconstruct the experience of walking the corridors of the library, the act of looking at the books in yearning and in wonder, but without opening them. Condensing all of these into an abstract image calls to mind the gaze of a painter facing the landscape and looking at it from a distance that produces reduction.

The visual research emerging in the book explores the material dynamics of embodiment and the concept of the library, while simultaneously negating them.
